The Mayan Museum of Cancun is located on Blvd Kukulcan, km 16.5 in the hotel zone of Cancun very close to Playa Delfines, very close to Playa Delfines and various areas of interest nearby, such as the Aquaworld marina, the Mayan Park tour and the Rosa Negra restaurant.

The Mayan Museum of Cancun, can be considered as the only museum in the city that pays tribute to the Mayan culture, its history and the most important historical events of the different eras, such as the classic, post classic and pre-Hispanic periods.

And not only keeps a large collection of figures and Mayan sculptures, in a small part outside the museum you can tour and enjoy the archaeological site of San Miguel, where you will find some Mayan ruins and a small pyramid hidden among the vastness of the hotels.

The Mayan Museum of Cancun is composed of 3 rooms and each one of them has a specific dedication to the deities, sculptures and history of the passage of civilization in the state of Quintana Roo and all of Mexico in general.

First Room

It is dedicated mainly to the archaeology of Quintana Roo, by means of a chronology of historical facts of the Quintana Roo coast.

Second Room

This room covers topics such as the environment, origin, development and economic activities of the Mayas of the state of Quintana Roo, and other neighboring states such as Tabasco, Yucatan, Campeche and Chiapas; and others are works on loan from different museums in the region.

Third Room

Temporary and borrowed exhibits from other museums in the country are presented here. Generally everything we find here is related to some kind of historical show or mystical dance that can be appreciated mainly on weekends.

How to get to the Maya Museum?

Thanks to its location, getting to the Mayan Museum of Cancun is very easy. If you are in the hotel zone, between kilometer 2 and kilometer 15, you can take a route 2 bus to Playa delfines. This bus takes you to the side of the “Nichupté Lagoon” and you just tell the driver to get off at the Mayan Museum.

If you are between km 15 and km 20, we recommend you to walk and enjoy the view of the hotel zone, until you reach the museum and if you are in the center of the city, you have to look for Tulum Avenue and take a public bus route 1 or route 2, bound for the Hotel Zone.

Prices and Hours

The Mayan Museum of Cancun is open from Tuesday to Sunday, but access is only available until 5:30 am and costs only 64 pesos, however on Sundays it is free for Mexicans upon presentation of identification.

The whole tour can last from one to two hours, depending on how much attention you pay to each piece (there are some very interesting and beautiful works of art).
