Considering that the old Sabinas Station was created in 1883 when the first train passed through, we can say that this is a young city.

This is not to say, however, that it doesn’t have anything to offer. In fact, quite the opposite. Its vitality and strength, similar to the energy that emanates from its coal layers, has been a fundamental factor in building a city that knows how to flatter those who visit it. Sabinas is the departure point for getting to any of its unexplored and surprising places and the perfect starting point for a paleontology excursion or a horseback ride through the midst of the action.

Sabina’s attractions
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Church
Initially constructed out of adobe in 1897, the original building was given the name Purisima e Inmaculada Concepcion in 1901. However, in 1934, the building was torn down and replaced with a stone building with brick transepts. In 1938, the bell tower was finished, boasting a half-ton bell made of gold, silver, and bronze. Unfortunately, it broke and has since been retired forever. The church received its current name in 1939
Municipal President’s
Building In 1912 a fire destroyed the original President’s Office, leading to the construction of this building in 1943.
Urban Museum of Paleontology
A product of private donations, this open aired space exhibits excellent examples of ammonites, fossilized fish, conches, and snails. There is also a life-sized sculpture of a mammoth with its two original tusks reconstructed.
Sabinas House of Culture
This is the initial location of the area’s artistic expressions and the site of one of the most relevant events in our Revolution. Illustrated with unique photographs, this mansion was where, on July 28, 1920, General Francisco Villa signed the armistice with the federal government, leading to when the last 759 revolutionary soldiers aid aside their weapons.
National Coal Museum
Built by the company SARCO in 1918, it served as the payroll office for miners until 1985. Inside, through photos, documents, machines and tools, the formation of this mineral as well as the development of the natural and industrial process used in our country is exhibited.
Benito Garza Ortegon Recreational Park
A traditional and natural recreational area located on the shore of the Sabinas River. With grills and soccer fields al around, the abundance and lushness of the area attract families for a day of fresh air in the country.
Paleontology and Archeology Museum
Developed by the PASAC organization, this original scientific/cultural space that sparks a childhood interest, exhibits thousands of pieces found in the region and shows the rich paleontology and archeology of the our state: fish fossils, mollusks, corals, arrowheads, and utensils from ancient dwellers. Highlighted is a peterodactyl fossil the only one of its kind in the world and the most complete exhibit (80%) in Mexico of a Sabinosaur skeleton.
Carboniferous Region Airport
The airport has a 1,800 m (5,905 ft) long and 30 m (98 ft) wide, completely safe, asphalt-paved runway. It has the capability to receive small and medium-distance, private aircrafts such as air taxis and state and federal government vehicles. It also has an executive waiting room.
Important holidays in Sabinas
Santo Domingo-Sabinas Horse. Show This festival is in recognition of the founders that arrived here in 1883, traveling 300 km (186 miles) in 29 days from Santo Domingo (Ramos Arizpe). Since 1992, close to seven thousand riders recreate this historic event, making it an original festival without comparison.
Sabinas Fair and Expo. This is a traditional event that fills the city with color and joy. The Livestock Expo, town theater, craftsmen, fireworks, rides, food, music and dance are apart of the many things to enjoy at this festival.
The most important festival of Sabinas is celebrated during the third week of September with agriculture and industrial exhibitions and regional dances. Every year during September, Sabinas celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the city with a parade which includes thousands of horsemen and hundreds of carts.

In spite of being a very young place, Sabia has many things to offer us and although we have read some of them here, we cannot forget that they are just a few of the hundreds of activities, festivals, and tourist attractions that this magical place in Coahuila has to offer us.
